What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Lost World demonstrates how far CG effects have come in the four years since Jurassic Park; unfortunately, it also proves how difficult it can be to put together a truly compelling sequel.

Like the original, the sequel is uneven, sometimes moving in fits and starts. But the new film never really loses its momentum, and its big set pieces deliver. Go to Full Review

There's not much story or character development here, but you don't need that when you've got dynamite dinosaurs of all stripes and appetites. Go to Full Review

It's sheer claptrap, but it's lively claptrap, with Spielberg skillfully reaching into his bag of shameless tricks to reinvent the chase movie and the cliffhanger. Go to Full Review

Visually and thematically darker than its precursor, The Lost World is canned entertainment. It lacks the wonder of the first film, perhaps an inevitability. What's more of a letdown is that it lacks the first one's heart. Go to Full Review

The Lost World: Jurassic Park, like its predecessor, combines gee-whiz effects with old-fashioned shots to the nervous system. Ooh and ahh all you want -- just get ready for the running and screaming. Go to Full Review

You literally see these creatures breathe, and the performances are so wonderful that it's hard to believe that the prehistoric brutes really are computer-generated. Go to Full Review

Vixo S @vixo_six 1d The Lost World Jurassic Park is an ambitious sequel that shifts the series from wonder to survival. Steven Spielberg gives the film a darker and more chaotic tone, turning the island into hostile territory rather than a place of discovery. The film still works in several moments. Jeff Goldblum brings charisma to the lead role, and sequences like the trailer over the cliff show Spielberg's command of tension and staging. Yet the larger scale often replaces awe with noise. The reflection on human arrogance and exploitation remains present, but it feels less sharp than in the original. What makes the sequel limited is not lack of energy, but lack of magic. It expands the world and delivers intensity, but it rarely restores the sense of amazement that made Jurassic Park unforgettable. It proves that making a sequel bigger is not the same as making it deeper. See more UKTrain96 T @RT71933463 May 23 While not as thrilling and ground breaking as the 1993 original - but there is still some good moments and can be fun at times. Give it a watch - but don't expect to be blown away. See more Carson K @Rower2030 May 17 Yeah it’s not the best movie ever but it has some amazing action and the finale SPOILERS with the T Rex in San Francisco has to be one of the best disaster scenes ever See more Emilio P. @RT60488406 May 5 One of the only Jurassic Films where the T-Rex gets stuffed with screen time. It's not a bad thing either, this movie is so cool but an obvious step down from the masterpiece of Jurassic Park. See more Alex G. @ALEXTITANIC May 1 T. rex has lots of screen time and isla sorna☠️ See more Kauã M @RT16528856 May 1 Não é igual o primeiro, mas continua sendo um baita filme.
